Painting Like Michelangelo

I wrote about the importance of novelty in the classroom recently and in an attempt to try a "novel" approach to art-- I had the kiddos paint like Michelangelo. We looked at panoramic pics of the inside of the Sistine Chapel and an illustration of the scaffolding the artist used to lie down and paint the ceiling. I taped big pieces of paper underneath one of our tables and the students chose an assistant to help by holding the paints for them. I used watercolors because I thought it would be the least messy-less dripping action. Some of them really took their time and didn't want to finish because they were having such a good time.
