I love discovering new favorite stories. When I first started teaching I had no idea what the kids liked and went to the library every couple of weeks checking out 20 children's books at a time! One that I bet no one else has ever read is called:
Lots of enriching vocabulary and what an example of how an author can be creative!
A Cajun version of Little Red Hen-he's making gumbo just like Maman used to make. I love fractured versions of common fairy tales-so many great comparison activities. The animals in this version don't exactly get to "eat" the gumbo either.
Just a fun book about resourceful and multicultural farm animals.
A story about getting along and the kids love the surprise ending.
I just love to exaggerate my non-existent Southern accent on this one. Another book about siblings that have to work together despite their differences.
How can you resist a book that ends with "Thank you Wisconsin"!

Chicks and salsa is the only one I've heard of! Now I'm off to the library ;)
