The Importance of Open-Ended Questions

In this age of data and standardization, I find teachers use open-ended questions less and less. Yes, they are harder to correct. Especially with the little ones, because often you have to ask them what their drawing means. However, it really gives you an idea of who can apply what they have learned and who still needs to work on those objectives. I also selfishly love to read the answers they come up with!

These are some examples of questions on our test today:

thinking

fight back for the not fair rules

be a vet (we talked about how people in America can be whatever they want to be-she wants to be a vet! :) and to vote.

Can you tell they really learned something this week? I certainly could.

  1. They did learn something of course because you're their teacher. :)
