Changing the Details

When we change the details of a story-what else changes? That is what I asked my kiddos to think about. We are reading Charlotte's Web, a chapter a day and we are learning about setting. I assigned my students a setting and asked them to imagine the story with that new detail.

The Best Part of Me

We read two stories about loving ourselves the way we are:



The students decided what part of themselves was their favorite and we took a picture of it. This was their first multi-step project--they had to cut, paste and write.

The Big Idea of Love

We read the story:


It's about a little girl and her duck (and on a deeper level about parenthood). Love is getting up in the middle of the night to feed your duck. Love is letting your duck fly away when it's time.

I asked the students to write about what the word love means to them:
