Divergent Art with a Leaf

Divergent art is when you take a shape or line and use your imagination to change it into something else. Since it is officially Fall, we did it with leaves. The students looked at the leaf and decided what they could turn it into.

We have really been working on developing our creativity! We read lots of stories about creative people and I have encouraged them to really think outside the box and come up with something different from their neighbors.

So proud of what they came up with:

Changing the Details

When we change the details of a story-what else changes? That is what I asked my kiddos to think about. We are reading Charlotte's Web, a chapter a day and we are learning about setting. I assigned my students a setting and asked them to imagine the story with that new detail.

The Best Part of Me

We read two stories about loving ourselves the way we are:

The Big Idea of Love

We read the story:

It's about a little girl and her duck (and on a deeper level about parenthood). Love is getting up in the middle of the night to feed your duck. Love is letting your duck fly away when it's time.

I asked the students to write about what the word love means to them:
