Teachers came back to campus today for our pre-service training. We had not been allowed on campus before today and this is kind of a daunting sight to come back to:
(please ignore the shoes-my poor feet are not used to wearing shoes all day! :)
We will luckily have time each day to work in our rooms, but still it feels like I don't even know where to start. I can't move this until I get this put away. And wait, where am I going to put this. I hate changing classrooms because then you have to wait until the teacher who was there before you takes everything they want to take along with them. So easy things like my files-I can't even put in the file cabinet yet. *boo*
Oh well, it will come together, it always does. I am excited that our new principal is incorporating book studies this year-I truly believe it helps us continue learning. I can read a book, but until I discuss with someone else and maybe gain that new perspective, I don't think it's as effective.
P.S. If there's a teacher at your school whose room looks like mine does--please don't keep popping and and reminding me that I have a lot of work to do or that you have a lot of stuff. *sigh*
I am working on my welcome letter to send out to families. Usually I give them a task to do and bring the first day, but I couldn't think of anything exciting. Isn't this cool paper I found-we are the Bears (thus the pawprints) and our school color is green-perfect right!?
Hope everyone who is trickling back to their classrooms are overcoming their daunting tasks as well! :)
Good luck! I am so thankful that I can go in a bit at a time during the summer!

Yes, that would be a better way to do it. Thanks Laurie! :)
DeleteOoph, I have the same problem as you. I took pictures of the before. My problem is that the teacher whom I took over from was a total hoarder. I've thrown away four or five huge trash barrels so far. The good news is there is some really great stuff in all that mess too! The great news is that my husband is taking my kids camping for two days so that I can work night and day to get it back in shape!

I did have full cabinets of stuff I'm trying to get rid of too. They built this school new for us and it was so nice when we moved in and everything was just ours-the closets and cabinets were completely empty. :)
DeleteI can't believe you are back to school this early! That room does look daunting. Do I remember correctly that you have two weeks of staff development before school starts? Hopefully that will give you enough time to get ready.
ReplyDeleteYes-2 weeks! :) We are supposed to have a couple of days about rigor so maybe I'll get a few new ideas to share!
DeleteWe had just two days to prepare our classrooms before school began yesterday. And the wax was still drying. My smartboard is still not hooked up (no one is able or willing to show me how this is done). I've also had my numbers increase from 11 to 17 in the last 48 hours---while school is in session! "Flexible" is just the tip of the iceberg at my new digs.
ReplyDeleteYes, it WILL come together. The first days are about building community...enjoy your sweeties!

Oh no. Yes, I hate when there are problems with the Smartboard because with us anyway, it can be a while before it gets fixed. That is a much bigger class for you, isn't it? You'll have to let us know all about the new school! :)
DeleteOhhh you are back to work...All the best

DeleteI've got confidence you'll pull it all together, but I am sorry that you're being pushed down to the wire. :)
