Edible Self-Portraits

Like many other teachers, my first unit is All About Me. One of the projects I like to do is self-portraits. The kids actually look in a mirror and the first one is painted with watercolors. Another kind I like to do is with snacks. I get tortillas for the face, Chex Mix, pretzels, raisins and the variety Cheetos with cream cheese as their adhesive. I actually felt badly that I had to rush them a little bit this time, I have 26 students this year and we were just running out of time. But the objective was to use their creativity to create their face out of these materials. And of course, they were happy to have an afternoon snack. Here's some of what they came up with:

  1. Oh my goodness! I love these....did they laugh at "eating themselves"?

    1. LOL! You know I don't think they made that connection. We made buses with graham crackers the 1st day and they got a kick out of eating a bus! :) Thanks Laurie!

  2. I especially love #4. I can see these turning into a class book. :)

    1. What a great idea! I never would have thought of that, but we will have to try that!
