Classroom Theme

I know there have been a bunch of blog posts recently questioning the validity of classroom themes and the "cute-ness" of the classroom. Personally, I choose a theme because otherwise I'd probably just buy a bunch of borders I thought were pretty and my room would be a hot mess!

Usually I do tie it in to educational activities-places (China, New York, Hollywood) or stories (The Wizard of Oz). This year I was just kind of uninspired as to what theme I wanted to use. Maybe something tied to a story I'd read them. Well, today it came to me. I am going to do DRAGONS! Since I'm reading My Father's Dragon to them this year and I love the time period of Kings and Queens and Knights and castles (do you think I could put a Game of Thrones poster up, probably not, huh? :).

I'm on an internet hunt for more borders, however I did find this one today:

Are you ready? My word wall is going to say "These Words Are On Fire"--get it, like the Alicia Keys song. I was excited! Now onto find castle and dragon accents--they have to be out there somewhere!

  1. And you could read The Paper Bag Princess and The Popcorn Dragon two of my favorite books for that theme.

    1. Thank you Barbara! I know they thought I was a bit of a psycho cheering to myself in Teacher Heaven-but I was excited. :)

  3. I LIVE for dragon units! Check out my posts for more ideas. This is not so much a theme to me as a lens for looking at life and literature.
