I have posted before that our district sponsors a student book club each year where they have a list of about 35 books we need to read in order to participate. Well, since today is my first official day of summer vacation, I thought I would get started on that list. This book:
is one of my new favorites. I love Jacqueline Woodson anyway, but this book is so beautifully written it just touches your heart. It's the story of the author and her family growing up in Ohio just as the Civil Rights Movement is starting to make headway. I'm not sure if it's too mature for my gifted Kinders yet, but I'm really hoping I can find a way to integrate it somehow in the future.
